Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if the current Intel boards with the 945 chipset will run Vista with the Aero Glass interface? Intel's site says it will meet the requirements for the "Vista Capable PC program", but a PC doesn't have to run Aero Glass to be capable of running Vista.
Thanks, Sir_tim

My Dell dimension E510 uses the Intel 945G chipset, and both Vista-32 and Vista-64 install by default, an Intel Lakeside WDDM driver for the intergrated video that does support Glass.
However, in both versions of Vista, it will leave a video device as an 'unknown' device.
If you use windows Update to look for a driver, Vista-32 will find and download a video driver specifically for the 945G video, but that driver does NOT support Glass. re-setting the driver back to using the Microsoft WDDM drive (Intel Lakeside) returns the sys back to supporting Glass.
Vista-64 will not find an Intel specific driver for the 945G and it will continue to run using the Microaost WDDM drive for Intel Lakeside video.
Systems that are using the 945Gm chipset however do not support Glass.

Which is exactly what he is asking. The Intel 945 IS his video card.
From what I've read here, the drivers that come with the beta WILL work with Aero Glass, but if you install Intel's updated/beta drivers, it breaks glass (oh, didn't mean to make such a bad pun).

My mistake then Tom,
usually when people refer to 'Intel boards with the 945 chipset ' I think they are referring to the Intel motherboard that uses the Intel 945 chipset and which usually contains integrated video and audio.

Thanks for the update. Yep, the test PC has on board Intel 945-based graphics. It also has a PCI Express x16 slot, so if all else fails I can try that too.
Hmm...is that broken Glass, or is that broken Windows? :-)
